WHO ARE WE?

Here is the English translation, revised for clarity, flow, and professional presentation:

Galería C is a space dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of contemporary art through an international and multidisciplinary vision. Founded in Montreal, Canada, in 2021, the gallery was created with the objective of building bridges between artists, collectors, and cultural institutions while fostering projects that bring together both emerging and established artistic practices. Its working model emphasizes collaboration across public, private, and corporate sectors, creating networks of cultural exchange at both local and international levels.

Throughout its trajectory, Galería C has developed exhibitions, artist residencies, and curatorial projects focused on Canadian and Latin American contemporary art. The gallery has distinguished itself through its support of experimental practices and artistic discourses related to identity, memory, territory, and social engagement. It has also maintained an active presence within cultural networks through collaborations with artists, curators, institutions, and independent art spaces.

In recent years, Galería C has expanded its activities through hybrid exhibition and cultural dissemination platforms, incorporating publications, interdisciplinary gatherings, and international projects that strengthen dialogue between diverse artistic communities. Its curatorial approach is characterized by a commitment to contemporary artistic experiences grounded in critical inquiry and a humanistic perspective.

Today, Galería C has extended part of its curatorial activities to Mexico, particularly to the city of Mérida, where it operates as Galería C Mérida. This space serves as a platform for temporary exhibitions, artist residencies, and cultural exchange projects involving Mexican and international creators.

Maintaining the same conceptual vision that has guided its work in Canada, Galería C Mérida promotes contemporary art through interdisciplinary practice and cultural dialogue. The gallery has presented exhibitions by significant figures in contemporary Mexican art, including Gabriel Macotela, reaffirming its commitment to artistic experimentation, memory, territory, and social dynamics.

Within this context, Galería C has become part of Mérida’s rapidly growing cultural ecosystem. In recent years, the city has emerged as one of southeastern Mexico’s most important artistic hubs, thanks to the proliferation of independent spaces, contemporary galleries, and ambitious curatorial initiatives.

Galería C Studio Mérida

Galería C Mérida is a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to contemporary art, cultural exchange, and the development of international creative networks. Located in Mérida’s historic center, the project was conceived as a flexible and evolving environment where artistic production, research, exhibition-making, mentorship, and critical dialogue converge.

Rooted in the visual arts while remaining open to interdisciplinary practices, Galería C seeks to strengthen connections among artists, curators, institutions, and cultural communities in Mexico, Canada, and beyond. More than an exhibition venue or residency program, it functions as a cultural ecosystem that supports artistic creation, collaboration, and professional development.

One of the project's principal initiatives is its international artist residency program, designed to provide both emerging and established artists with an environment conducive to production, reflection, and exchange. Residencies combine accommodation, studio facilities, curatorial support, and opportunities to engage with Mérida’s artistic and academic communities through studio visits, workshops, lectures, and professional networking events.

Galería C also develops an independent curatorial program focused on experimental contemporary practices and international exchange projects. Through exhibitions and public programming, it seeks to foster meaningful dialogue between local and international artistic communities while encouraging new forms of collaboration and critical thought.

As part of its commitment to cultural development, the project incorporates mentorship and professional development programs for emerging artists and students, as well as advisory services for collectors, corporations, and institutions interested in contemporary art and in building collections guided by strong cultural and curatorial principles.

Through residencies, exhibitions, research initiatives, and public programming, Galería C Mérida aims to contribute actively to the development of a rigorous, open, and internationally connected contemporary art infrastructure in Yucatán, positioning Mérida as a significant meeting point for global artistic and cultural exchange.

Production and Research Residencies

Galería C’s Artist Residency Program offers artists the opportunity to develop a focused body of work during a minimum one-month stay in Mérida, Mexico. Conceived both as a creative environment and as a professional platform, the residency includes studio access, curatorial mentorship, and integration into the city’s expanding contemporary art scene.

The residency takes place in a house located in Mérida’s historic center, strategically positioned to provide easy access to the city’s cultural and artistic life. The property includes private accommodations with en-suite bathrooms, a swimming pool, indoor and outdoor studio facilities, and spaces designed for presentations, gatherings, and cultural activities.

Each residency culminates in a public exhibition at the gallery, offering participants the opportunity to present work produced during their stay. The program also includes studio visits, informal gatherings, and networking events with collectors, curators, artists, and cultural professionals.

In addition, residents benefit from connections with the academic community of the Universidad de las Artes de Yucatán (UNAY), where they may engage with undergraduate and graduate students and offer workshops, lectures, or presentations related to their practice and areas of expertise.

The members of Galería C bring extensive professional experience in the arts and have established partnerships with institutions and cultural professionals in Mérida, Mexico City, and Canada. This network enables the program to provide a personalized and distinctive residency experience while facilitating meaningful professional exchanges and active integration into both local and international artistic communities.
